Abstract

GHG emissions play a key role in the escalating extreme weather crisis. Electricity especially accounts for 41% of global carbon emissions, which emphasize the importance of reducing carbon emission in the power sector. However, efficient emission mitigation strategies can only be derived from accurate carbon accounting, collaborating with legislation system of energy labelling and emission trading system. Based on the understanding, this thesis aims to review and synthesize the existing Scope 2 carbon accounting methodologies and initiatives linked to the timing of production and consumption, and investigates the more time-granular methodology’s implementation compared with the business-as-usual scenario. With this advanced method, the thesis explores the potential influence the implementation of hourly Energy Attribute Certificates has on the accuracy of Scope 2 carbon accounting, and the large-scale storage system operators, aiming to provide a clear picture for consumers regarding the importance of time granularity<br />Objectius de Desenvolupament Sostenible::11 - Ciutats i Comunitats Sostenibles
