Abstract
C. | This paper provides a review of the use of certain terms, such as Tartessos and Orientalizing, within the same chronological and cultural context, mainly in relation to the archaeology of the southwestern area of the Iberian Peninsula during the First Iron Age. These concepts are analysed terminologically and historiographically in order to prove that they should not be used as synonyms in archaeological literature. For this analysis, the area chosen is the middle valley of the Guadiana River, because it is one of the regions where both concepts are frequently exchanged. This choice is due to the refusal of some authors to use the term Tartessos to define the cultural affiliation of the archaeological sites that mark out the basin of Guadiana river between 6th and 4th centuries BC.<br />[EN]: This paper provides a review of the use of certain terms, such as Tartessos and Orientalizing, within the same chronological and cultural context, mainly in relation to the archaeology of the southwestern area of the Iberian Peninsula during the First Iron Age.
