Altered Cortico-Striatal Functional Connecvity During Resting State in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is associated with alterations in the cortico-striato-thalamo-cortical pathway (CSTC). However, functional connectivity (FC) within the CSTC as a whole has not been investigated yet. The present study investigated FC within all relevant nodes of the direct and indirect pathway of the CSTC. The results highlight the importance of the indirect pathway, especially of the subthalamic nucleus, in OCD pathology and may show new aspects of CSTC function in OCD. Furthermore, they may improve insight on deep brain stimulation as a treatment.
Die Zwangserkrankung wird mit Veränderungen im kortiko-striato-thalamo-kortikalen Regelkreis (KSTK) assoziiert. Da die funktionelle Konnektivität (FK) innerhalb des KSTK in seiner Gesamtheit bisher noch nicht untersucht wurde, analysiert die hier beschriebene Studie die FK zwischen allen relevanten Elementen des direkten und indirekten Weges des KSTK. Die Ergebnisse könnten die Relevanz des indirekten Weges, besonders des Nucleus subthalamicus, hervorheben, die Funktion des KSTK in ein neues Licht setzen sowie das Verständnis der Tiefenhirnstimulation als Therapieoption verbessern.
