Abstract

The program on Invasive electrophysiology defines the necessary theoretical knowledge for the diagnostics and treatment of cardiac rhythm disorders in analogy to the programs on cardiac pacemaker treatment, implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) treatment and cardiac resynchronization treatment. Together with practical experience gained during in-house training and further education, these are prerequisites for a qualified treatment of patients with cardiac arrhythmias. The program includes the basic principles of pathophysiology of arrhythmias as well as diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This includes antiarrhythmic drug therapy and catheter ablation as well as principles of antiarrhythmic device therapy. In addition, special aspects and principles of treatment for individual arrhythmias are discussed. In analogy to existing programs numerous case discussions and trouble-shooting represent essential supplements to the theoretical knowledge. Together with courses on pacemaker, ICD and resynchronization therapy the program covers the theoretical knowledge necessary to obtain the certificate for Special Rhythmology of the German Society of Cardiology (DGK).
