Farmers' innovations in land and water management

Development organizations are looking for indigenous land husbandry innovations in the semi-arid highlands of Tigray, northern Ethiopia, and see this as an entry point for participatory technology development, within the framework of the programme ' Indigenous Soil and Water Conservation'. The article presents an inventory of indigenous innovations, f.i. revegetation of slopes, soil fertility improvement and moisture conservation, apiculture, and improved animal-drawn farm implements for transport and ploughing.
