De uitgebreide expertise over planten en voedsel waardeketens bij Wageningen University and Research en haar vele partners, wordt ingezet om de textiel sector duurzamer te maken. 80 miljard kledingstukken worden jaarlijks verkocht, wereldwijd. Dat is fast fashion. De textiel industrie is de tweede vervuiler van de wereld. Bij de opening van het Academisch jaar 2018, toonde voorzitter Louise O. Fresco circulaire textiel innovaties, zoals; een horloge bandje van schimmels; een jurk van een restpartij zijde, ontworpen om minimaal textielafval te geven bij productie; restanten inkt, doorgaans een afvalproduct; en een zijden sjaal, gekleurd door bacteria.Zie de making of door partners in het Circular Fashion Lab. The huge expertise on plants and food value chains of Wageningen University and Research together with many partners, is on offer to make the textiles value chains more sustainable. 80 billion pieces of clothing are sold woldwide, each year. The textile industry is the second most polluting industry in the world. At the opening of the 2018 Academic year, chair Louise O. Fresco showcased real circular fashion innovations, such as; a watch band made out of mycelium; a dress from deadstock silk, designed to minimize textile waste in production; the use of residualink, a conventional waste product; and, a scarf made of vegan peace silk, dyed with bacteria.
