Abstract
- Fluvio-morphology is responsible for characterizing rivers and their associated processes involving the analysis of changes experienced over time in both their longitudinal profile and their cross sections. In this context, fluvio-morphological and erosive processes are developed in the bed and in the banks respectively generally due to the presence of high flow rates that generates high shear stresses. In the present work, an exploratory technical study is developed to identify channeling and streambank protection solutions in a reach of Tarqui River located in Azuay province. The river presents several morphodynamic and erosive processes. This puts at risk the stability of its streambanks and the safety of existing works. In this study, the characterization of the main fluvio-morphological processes as well as the analysis of the hydraulic behavior of the river have been performed through a two-dimensional simulation allowing the identification of critical zones. The simulations have been performed using Iber model. Finally, the dimensions of river channeling and protection of its streambanks works are proposed based on the strengthening of streambanks and bioengineering techniques at a pre-feasibility level. Through this study, an important contribution to the understanding and application of techniques for design of intervention works and flow control in mountain rivers is made.
