Abstract

This research aimed to determine the levels of depression in pregnant adolescents, taking into account factors such as the age of participants and the received support. To accomplish this aim a quantitative study using a descriptive design was conducted and the inventory of depression of Beck (1996) was used. The sample consisted in 40 women between 14 and 17 years old. Results indicate that 3 out of 5 pregnant adolescents that assist to the diagnostic center “Medimagen” presented any type of depressive state. With regard to age, most of the reported cases that presented depressive symptoms were 16 years old. With regard to the variable of support, results reveal that 2 out of 5 pregnant adolescents do not count with either family or partner support. With these results the necessity of an integral evaluation that integrate the presence of symptoms that could be the cause of depression in this population was proposed.
