Abstract

Bovine Enzootic Hematuria (BEH) is a non-infectious disease, of high morbidity and characterized by the presence of tumors in the bladder wall; its development is associated with the continuous and prolonged ingestion of varieties of Pteridium aquilinum, arachnoideum y caudatum, where the main clinical sign is hematuria, it is also suspected that it is related to infectious agents such as Papillomavirus, that’s why this research was carried out. Moreover, food safety is considered to be a high priority issue for those actors involved in agricultural production and consumer safety, therefore, poisoning by plants in livestock causes the elimination of toxic substances such as Ptaquiloside, which reach the final consumer through the milk and meat of the affected animals. A relevant example is Pteridium spp., a highly invasive fern capable of dominating cattle grazing areas, with attention to Andean regions in Latin America. The objective of this research is to identify and typify by means of molecular biology tools: polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLP) the different types of bovine papillomavirus present in urinary bladder tumors in female and male cattle, slaughtered in slaughterhouse of the cantons: Zaruma, Piñas, Marcabelí and Nobol. Obtaining as a result the presence of Papillomaviruses type 13, 21 and other unidentified.
