Abstract

The poster will introduce the first Belgian-Saudi multi-disciplinary research project in the al-Ghat governate of Saudi-Arabia. Al-Ghat is located at about 250 km north of the capital Riyadh in North-Central Saudi-Arabia, an area with a poorly documented history. The Belgian team, sponsored by the al-Sudairy foundation, analyzed the area potential during a prospection mission, which led to the discovery of a wide range of archaelogical, epigraphic and geographical possibilities. The rock desert of the Wadi Markh, indicates a rich history of prehistoric human activities. The numerous petroglyphs refer to the importance of the Wadi Markh region during the Iron Age. A more detailed report of our research activities in the al-Ghat region will be explained in the poster.
