La concezione leopardiana di sentimento affonda le proprie radici nell'auspicata integrazione tra intelletto e immaginazione, dettagliata tra il 1820 e il 1823. Il comune utilizzo dei "termini" li rende idonei alla ricerca filosofica e scientifica. La frequente comparsa di "sentimento" in dittologia sinonimica con altre categorie ne precisa attinenze e divergenze con principi limitrofi, primi fra tutti quelli richiesti dalla ricerca, anche scientifica, della verità. La rilettura delle due Operette morali che hanno come protagonisti una scienziato apre a consuntivi interessanti.
