Abstract

Design goals and design directions are formulated for the (digital) support of non-technical nursing tasks and skills in the intensive care unit (ICU), such as organizing work, evaluating care, coping with stress and dealing with poor team dynamics. A conceptual framework for ICU nursing was developed that provides product developers with a design-relevant view of nursing. The point of departure of the nurse-centred framework is that ICU nurses fulfil three roles: practitioner, scholar, and human. The framework was implemented into a prototype that was evaluated by nurses. In addition, interviews structured according to the framework were held. Both studies resulted in design recommendations for improved ICU nursing support.
Industrial Design
Industrial Design Engineering
