37 mm artillery shell, decorated

Abstract

This shell is made of brass. It has an engraving of what appears to be an American soldier in uniform, pack on his back, holding a rifle in one hand and in the other, a German helmet. Also engraved on the shell is a shield, with a dove, oftentimes a symbol of peace, holding an olive branch inside of it. Engraved behind the shield are crossed three-bladed weapons. Below the shield "A.E.F. [American Expeditionary Forces]1918" is written on a ribbon design
