Abstract
- In October, 1931, ground was broken for new buildings necessary to house the largest, most modern “book” type paper machine able to be purchased at the time. Five short months later on March 25, 1932, the 242-inch wide, high speed machine came online. Competitors in the industry were skeptical that such a wide, fast moving machine could produce quality paper, however, the machine emerged as the most efficient and lowest cost producer. In this 1950 photograph, round the clock renovations are underway. The work was heavy and hazardous, but no injuries resulted.
