Abstract

This fork has a 8 mm Lebel rifle cartridge for its handle, with the projectile still attached. The fork component has three tines and appears to have been soldered onto the bullet projectile. One side of the cartridge bears a round appliqué with a crown at the center.

This headstamp suggests that the cartridge was manufactured in 1909 by the Ateliers de Construction de Rennes, while the metal was supplied by the Atelier de Laminage de l'École de Pyrotechnie de Bourges. The dimensions and other physical characteristics of the cartridge suggest that it is an 8 mm Lebel.
