Abstract
- The letter opener, or knife, has a 8 mm rifle cartridge for its handle, with the projectile still attached. The blade appears to have been soldered onto the bullet projectile. The blade itself is curved and has the inscription "Bapaume." In the center of the bullet shell the shield of Bapaume is appliqued.

Date taken from bullet headstamp., Bottom of bullet shell has the inscriptions that appear to be "16", "3" and "VS" which indicate the year (1916) the bullet was produced, the month or quarter (3), and place of production (Atelier de Fabrication de Vincennes). The fourth stamp has mostly worn away and is illegible.
