U.S. M-1910 canteen with cover and cup

Publication Year :
1919

Abstract

U.S. M-1910 canteen is made of aluminum and slightly dented. The body of the canteen was created by welding together two halves along the outer edge. The screw-top cap has a domed, smooth top, with knurling on the sides, and is attached to the neck of the canteen via a chain. These physical characteristics suggest that the canteen is an updated version of the M-1910. Stamped on one side of the canteen is, "U.S. L.F. & C. 1918", referring to the canteen manufacturer Landers, Frary & Clark, based in New Britain, Conn. The cup is also made of aluminum, and shaped so that it can fit over the bottom of the canteen within the cover. The cover is made primarily of canvas, with stud fasteners and a double belt hook on the back. On the front is stamped "U.S.", while one flap bears a faint stamp that may be "629", and the other flap bears the stamp "L-D Inc. 1917", which likely refers to the manufacturer Liberty-Durgin, Inc., based in Haverhill, Mass.
