Scipio Africanus (?)

inv. 1558; The identification of the subject is tentative, but the picture certainly depicts a male figure in military dress holding a sword and scale, the emblems of justice, and a female figure who holds a wreath and a palm, the emblems of victory. Scipio Africanus was a Roman general distinguished for his exemplary leadership and his role in the conquest of Carthage in the second century BCE.
