Abstract

inv. 1558; The identification of the subject is tentative, but the picture certainly depicts a male figure in military dress holding a sword and scale, the emblems of justice, and a female figure who holds a wreath and a palm, the emblems of victory. Scipio Africanus was a Roman general distinguished for his exemplary leadership and his role in the conquest of Carthage in the second century BCE.<br />Please note that if this image is under copyright, you may need to contact one or more copyright owners for any use that is not permitted under the ARTstor Terms and Conditions of Use or not otherwise permitted by law.
