Abstract

Hardcover book compiling texts by 28 artists invited to respond to the statement "The next Documenta should be curated by an artist." In his introduction, editor Hoffmann recounts how the idea grew out of a discussion with artist Carsten Höller, and that the project provocatively explores artists' relations to the profession of curating, rather than critiquing previous Documenta exhibitions. The artists' writings are approached from a wide range of perspectives, from critical reflections to fantastical/radical ideas to elaborately conceived proposals. Also includes a selection of texts–including heated debates–contributed by e-mail during an Open Forum between July 2003 and February 2004. 3 bibl. ref
