Abstract
- Scrapbook and photographs documenting the life and academic activities of Horace Smith of Covington, KY from 1870-1880. The scrapbook includes items from Smith's time as a student at Hanover College including newspaper clippings; poetry; report cards; Union Literary Society documents; calling cards; invitations; and programs from concerts, exhibitions and commencements. There are also documents from his time as a medical student at the City University of New York. The collection includes photographs of friends and colleagues of Smith. An itemized list of images is available.

- Horace Rawlins Smith was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 9, 1855. He attended Hanover College beginning in 1872 until about 1875. He taught in Hamilton, Ohio from 1876-1878 and then studied medicine at City University of New York and earned his M.D. in 1880. He received a Masters of Arts degree at Hanover College in 1881. From 1881-1883 he served as a medical missionary in China. He spent the remainder of his life working as a doctor in Pennsylvania. He died in Altoona, PA on Dec. 10, 1926.
