Abstract
- This photograph depicts a group of 120 men doing a push up exercise on Pratt Field on the International YMCA College, now Springfield College, campus as part of May Day Festival of 1920. The men are all in lines and are at the top of their push up. In the lower right hand side there appears to be members of a band. A man with a trombone is moving his chair. The Festival included a gymnastics show of the skills of students from Springfield College. Notice the men sitting with musical instruments in right side of the picture. It is believed that the exercises might have been conducted with music on the background. The photograph is part of a collection of 9 photographs, all depicting the gymnastics show. The series of photographs are numbered and were taken by photographer John Barnum for a local newspaper, the Springfield Republican, though this one is actually marked Bosworth Studios. It is not known if this image actually belongs with this was taken at the same time just by a different photographer.
