Abstract

Digital technologies that may prove useful in obtaining evidence of learning in young children are described, and findings from one investigation, into the use of digital cameras and voice recorders to accurately capture essential components of early learners' achievements, are presented. The project was undertaken by 24 early childhood educators in 12 kindergarten settings. Findings from the project suggest that digital technologies have the potential to facilitate the collection of accurate evidence for assessment purposes. The results further suggest that digital tools enhance the young child's learning and also teaching practices. This project illustrates that digital technologies have potential for enhancing assessment and record keeping practices in early childhood settings.
