Abstract

This paper studies the propagation of a single cylindrical inclusion in a transversely isotropic rod. Based on an elastic solution of the inclusion problem, the free energy of the system is formulated and the nominal stress-strain relation is obtained for the case of uniaxial tension by taking the inclusion length as the internal variable. Effects of microstrcuture parameters on the elastic fields as well as the nominal stress-strain curves are quantitatively demonstrated through examples.
