Abstract

Direct Sampling Mass Spectrometry (DSMS) techniques employing both Glow Discharge Mass Spectrometry and Ion Mass Spectrometry are being developed to quantitatively determine preselected organics in water, soil, and air samples at part per billion levels in less than five minutes. Direct sampling requires little or no sample preparation and no prior chromatographic separation and is applicable to both volatile and semivolatile organics. (js)
