Abstract

This thesis presents a non-technical analysis of the utility and validity of modern war gaming procedures for evaluating military plans and operational concepts. Selective contemporary applications of war gaming methodologies are investigated and their capabilities and limitations are identified and examined. The conclusion is reached that the war gaming process provides a meaningful and viable method for combining military expertise with modern analytic techniques to assist defense planners and decisionmakers in making rational choices among complex alternatives. Recommendations for improvements in the state of the war gaming art are made. (Author)
