Abstract

English-Japanese machine translation requires a large amount of structural transformations in both grammatical and conceptual level. In order to make its control structure clearer and more understandable, this paper proposes a model based on Montague Grammar. Translation process is modeled as a data flow computation process. Formal description tools are developed and a prototype system is constructed. Various problems which arise in this modeling and their solutions are described. Results of experiments are shown and it is discussed how far initial goals are achieved.<br />This article is from 'Proceedings of the Conference on Applied Natural Language Processing Held at Santa Monica, California on 1-3 February 1983,' AD-A129 824.
