Abstract

An exploratory approach is reported to quantitative, machine-derived measures of human training performance in a complex manned vehicle. Computer programs produced 846 analytically derived candidate measures of performance for 12 training maneuvers. A preliminary test of the measurement approach compared trainee performance against instructor performance at five times during 11 days of training. Multivariate procedures selected 398 preliminary components according to the initial selection criteria and method. The preliminary nature of the measure tests require that further work be conducted with a larger data base.
