Abstract

The report describes an experimental study of transonic gas flows expanding suddenly from a circular nozzle into a coaxial circular channel. Tests were made with four different channels whose cross-sectional areas were from 1.5 to 3 times that of the nozzle and whose lengths ranged from 1.5 to 4.5 times the difference between the inner radii of the nozzle and channel. Attention is given to the region of flow attachment to the wall of the channel, and the existence of a single condition for attachment is established.
