Abstract

Three viral agents were isolated from humans in a jungle source region: (1) Boraceia - apparently recently introduced in region; (2) Tacaiuma - recently introduced; and (3) a new Group B type of long time presence. An extensive program is in progress to test wild, small animals and birds for virus. Some immune reaction was observed in animals against Junin antigen. The disease is not yet recognized in man in this area. Preliminary evidence implicates the mosquito A. (K) cruzii as a transmission vector. (Author)
