- Engraved hand colored in outline map. Shows political boundaries, capital cities, cities, towns, villages, roads, railroads, forts, canals, mountains and rivers. Relief shown by hachures. Depth shown by isolines. Prime meridians are Greenwich and Washington.<br />Geographical, statistical, and historical atlas. With full color maps; description of treatise on physical geography by Arnold Guyot, LL. D.; The United States statistics were compiled from the Official Census of 1870, by John F. Cleveland, Esq; The foreign statistics by Prof. A.J. Schem. Also includes a dictionary of religious denominations, compiled by Professor Roswell D. Hitchcock, D.D. and indexes. Bound in half leather embossed dark green cloth covered boards stamped with "Johnson's New Illustrated Family Atlas Of The World With A Treatise On Physical Geography By Professor A. Guyot." in gilt; the same title is blind stamped on the back cover. The spine reads "Johnson's Family Atlas". Includes 121 pages of single and double sheet full color engraved maps and charts, dated 1862-1880. Compiled from the government coast and inland surveys and explorations, and the foreign maps from the latest and best European atlases.
