Abstract
- Color map, with descriptive text. Shows political and administrative divisions, and place names. Relief shown by shadings.<br />This troubled world series in 12 pages of 10 color maps and descriptive text created by Richard Edes Harrison with Antonio Petrucelli for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch of September 12, 1954 (this copy lacking pages 9-10). According to Walter W. Ristow, these kinds of maps represent the most important advances in the genre of journalistic cartography. These maps restored the connection between the map and the place it depicted. If World War II was an important catalyst for journalistic cartography, the early Cold War also drove interest to the genre. Includes text "Principal trouble sports in the world are shown and discussed in the pages of this special section."<br />History of cartography, P.715.
