Abstract

Hand color map, with outline color. Showing roads, place names, rivers, etc. Relief shown by hachures. Prime meridian is Greenwich.<br />2nd edition, first was 1825 (see our 2550.000). The first edition was issued in the year following the elder Arrowsmith's death in 1824, and dedicated to him. As with the first edition, there is a portrait of A. Arrowsmith Sr in this second edition and all of the maps appear to have been updated, showing changes in the intervening 25 years. Atlas is (2), 45 pages, including 44 maps, bound in half leather brown cloth covered boards, with title on cover "Arrowsmith's New Atlas", and "Arrowsmith's Atlas" stamped on the spine in gold. Maps are hand painted with outline color.
