Abstract

It may be possible to treat patients with multi-drug resistant tuberculosis in a community setting in poor countries, according to a study from Lima, Peru. Of 66 patients who were treated in a medical clinic, five died during the six-month treatment, but most of the rest were cured. Pyrazinamide and ethambutol were especially effective provided the bacterium was not resistant.
