Abstract: Semiconductor nanocrystals can be a visual aid in introducing the particle in a box for students of physical chemistry learning about quantum mechanics. An overview of methods for preparing nanocrystals is presented, and the preparation of CdSe nanocrystals by the pyrolysis of organometallic precursors is described in detail.
