Genomic and functional analyses of SXT, an integrating antibiotic resistance gene transfer element derived from Vibrio cholerae

Research examines the conjugative transfer and chromosomal excision features of the mobile genetic element SXT in Vibrio cholerae. Results reveal that over half of the SXT genome is not involved in its transmissibility and two loci on SXT encode regulators, which activate gene transcription mediating SXT excision and transfer.
