Abstract

The 1848 incorporation of freedom of the press in the Dutch Constitution, the 1869 abolition of the stamped paper duty, World War II, and the creation of the press relief fund to support pluralism of daily newspapers were four events that influenced the development of the market for newspapers in the Netherlands.
