Global and dimensional self-esteem in preadolescent and early adolescent children who are overweight: age and gender differences

Research on overweight children indicates that general self-esteem is predicted not by physical self-esteem, but by cognitive and social self-esteem. However, while highly obese girls had lower physical self-esteem than moderately obese girls, the opposite pattern was observed in boys.
