Abstract
- Videofluoroscopy (VF), also known as cineradiography and dynamic spinal visualization, is a diagnostic technique used to visually document biomechanical (joint motion) abnormalities in the joints and bones of the spine. These studies may be requested after plain X-rays of the spine, and complement this information by providing the ability to watch the motion of individualized joints. The video allows for slow, repetitive, and stopped-motion viewing, which gives total clarity to the mechanics of joint motion. A motion study of the spine can reveal abnormal motions and a better appreciation of abnormalities. The VF technique gives more information than computed tomography (CT scan), while exposing the patient to less radiation. Videofluoroscopy is also used after chiropractic therapy to substantiate the effectiveness of the treatments, and after acute injury to stage the progression of healing.
