Abstract: The Cytophaga-Flexibacter-Bacteroides group appears to predominate in estuaries in the northern Baltic Sea, particularly the Flavobacterium genus. This bacterial group is present throughout the year and catabolizes dissolved organic matter in river water to produce energy and carbon.
