Abstract: Drosophila melanogaster has been studied using line-cross analysis to look into the genetic bases of divergence in desiccation and starvation resistance in temperate and tropical populations of the flies. Resistance to desiccation tends to be higher in populations from temperate areas vs tropical ones, but the reverse is true for starvation resistance.
