Abstract

A meeting on the risks associated with asbestos in buildings was held Dec 14-16, 1988 at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government's Energy and Environmental Policy Center. The symposium identified 11 major findings, including: the extent of risks connected with exposure to asbestos differs for various groups who reside or work in contaminated buildings; health risks connected with common levels of asbestos are less severe than risks associated with radon and tobacco smoke; and risks to occupants of contaminated buildings should be determined by measuring exposure to airborne fibers.<br />How Risky Is Asbestos?
