Abstract

Nike's dominance of the athletic shoe and sporting apparel market began to suffer in 1997, with public relations and inventory problems resulting in a loss of five percent market share, from 43% to 38%. Nike has recently begun a dedicated push into the women's sporting apparel sector, experiencing success it hopes to parley into a return to its glory days.
