Synthesis of carbazoles from N-(N,N-diarylamino)phthalimides with aluminum chloride via diarylnitrenium ions

Abstract: Research has been conducted on the N-(N,N-diarylamino)phthalimides. The generation of the diarylnitrenium ions from these compounds carried out via the AlCl (sub)3 treatment in benzene is discussed and the carbazole formation via the intramolecular C-C bond are discussed.
