Abstract

The activation of the acetogenic bacterial acetyl-CoA synthase is brought about by the rapid binding of carbon dioxide and a two-electron reduction at one of the active sites. Data indicate that enzyme mediated carbon dioxide reduction rates and acetyl-CoA synthesis are synchronized by a catalytic mechanism.
