Abstract: The molecular structure of the cystin knot protein family member Ptu1 reveals a 2-stranded antiparallel beta-sheet forming the secondary structure. Results demonstrate that the acidic Asp-16 residue of the loop 2 is involved in the binding of the toxin to N-type calcium-channels, although with low affinity.
