Look who's talking: after a decade of deafness, speech interfaces finally are ready to listen

Voice-recognition technology continues to evolve and advance, but progress has not moved ahead as rapidly as was expected in the early 1990s. Since then, it has become clear that voice recognition is only partly a technical problem and that cultural assumptions and expectations have to be taken into account.
