Music Listening: An Evidence-Based Approach to Managing Postoperative Pain

Listening to music to help patients manage postoperative pain and reduce opioid consumption was implemented in a rural hospital. The music listening group experienced a decline in overall opioid use. However, there was no significant difference in opioid use per day between patients who listened to music and those who did not.
