Abstract: Research describes the stereochemical outcome of the reaction catalyzed by human protein geranylgeranyltransferase type I by phenylation, digestion, and analyzing the phenylated dipeptides by NMR spectroscopy. Results show that preferentially, an associative-type mechanism operates that involves a rigid, solvent-sequestered, tight ion-pair.
