Abstract

General Electric's Aircraft Engines Division is using lasers for accurate, fast, and flexible holemaking. The company uses A Huffmann Corp HP-75L system using Coherent General Nd:YAG lasers to drill venting holes in jet engine airfoils. The laser drilling cell is part of a larger system which includes automated anti-scarfing wax injection; drilling; deburring; and inspection and decapsulation.
