Abstract

A hydrodynamic model is presented to describe the flow of fluid around an island, using numerical experiment data from Lagrangian floats. The model shows that eddy splitting occurs when a lens is formed by a jet leaking fluid along the wall of the obstruction; energy conservation is less of a constraint than integrated angular momentum.
